Hey all, wanted to ask the forum about a sound I hear.

In 1st gear and only first gear, I hear a mechanical sound when I'm coasting in 1st with the clutch pulled in. It sounds like a bad bearing, or some other rotating metal on metal friction.

Anyone else have this, know what it is, is it normal, and should I take it to dealer?

Thank you, Waff.
Yup. Mine does that. It was the same on my Shadow RS...
When does this come up? When are you coasting in first gear with the clutch in at a speed high enough to hear and isolate a sound? Lol now I have to go out and coast down my drive way in first with the clutch in to see what y'all are talking about.
Same sound for me here, though I didn't think it sounded like metal on metal friction. I always thought it was odd but told myself there was some logical explanation for it that I don't understand and let it be.
mp3 or video, or there's no way to know what sound you're referring to or whether it's the same as anyone else's sound that they *think* you're referring to !
I hear only the engine running. Get a experienced person to listen to it. Lubed your chain lately?(ever?)
I know what he's talking about and it's a normal sound. I think it has to do with the cut of the gears in 1st.
Yup, its when you are going pretty slow, coasting with the clutch in, its likely the sound of the way 1st gear syncs up... isn't a bad noise, just one of many. Like the startup noise that had some people wondering... All the under gas tank whirring and clicking. Its a machine. If it STOPS making noise, thats when I really worry.
I would describe the sound as similar to a supercharger, only much slower rpm. Very noticeable around 10mph with clutch pulled in. I have stock exhaust, so I can hear a pin drop with the bike idling.

Looks like it is normal, so I wont worry about it.

Thank you all.
Ok I coasted down my driveway last night, clutch in, idling and heard the sound you are talking about. It does sound like a super charger. I don't think I would have ever heard that if I hadn't done that experiment lol
