Spotted a review in BMWMOA magazine (used to ride one) awhile ago and after digging up the article I went ahead and ordered one just because I'm lazy and make a mess when I spray lube all over the chain and rear sprocket.

Basically a hard nylon-type plastic block that routes the spray lube onto the chain sideplates. Sure you could cobble up your own, but remember I'm lazy and it doesn't cost too much (compared to things like Ohlins or farkles from those vendors in Japan).

I love gadgets like this. Might have to get one. I still have some things similar to this for lubing the old clutch cables, etc.

I've had one for a while. Use it on my Bonnevilles and the CB11. After some practice it works well. Much cleaner application. Much less waist. You still need to use cardboard under the chain to catch the small amount of dripping. One inconvenience is the need to reverse the copper wire if you have bikes with chains on opposite sides of the bike. I use mine with DuPont All Purpose Teflon Lube. (blue can)

I understand they have different sizes - will have to research, find the right size for the CB1100 and order one.

Most riders over lube the chain. What you need is a plastic syringe, available lots of places, extremely inexpensive. Cut the opening to a size where the same synthetic oil you use in your crankcase flows freely. Apply a line to a 4 to 6" long section of your chain occasionally. Simple. As important, clean your chain periodically, with a rag, maybe a toothbrush if need be. Just keep the scrum from building up.

I have also been guilty of over-application of chain lube... Thanks for the work-around suggestion.
