Hey guys.

Anyone installed fog lights on the cb before?? I got these off ebay:

Two lights and a switch. My local dealer told me they would not install these for me. So I guess I'll have to try myself. I am going to attach them to my crash bars.

Any suggestions? Or has anyone done this before?

I read an article which stated the output watts for the 2014 cb1100 stator is 336 watts. Now at 336 watts and let's say 13.5 volts (I know it is a 12v system but running voltage is usually around 13.5v)...that gives about 24.8 amps. I'm not sure how much the bike uses while running with the lights on but those fog lights would use up around 9.5amps at 13.5 volts (bike running). I haven't personally checked the voltage running or not running so calculations may vary. I used this link to help figure things out, because I am too lazy to do it myself.

I was considering adding fog lights later so now I am curious about this.

Working with automotive modifications I can understand why they would not want to install the lights. They may not have all the information and don't want to be responsible for aftermarket adds ons which may overload the system. It may be easy to install but knowing the calculations and how to do them are not always a strongpoint for "some" mechanics...I must emphasize that I did not say "all" mechanics.

Your calcs are spot on, by my reckoning, but I think there's a catch here. I think these are LED lights which are marketed as putting out the the brightness of a conventional 125w fog light, but they actually only consume about 25w of electrical power to do it. No guarantees, but if my guess is actually right, they'll draw only about a fifth of the calculated current.

They are LED and he isn't going to have a problem with current draw. Its only drawing around 2 amps at 12v (going by the 25W Rolls said). He also isn't the only member to add lights like these. There are pics posted around the site.

installed one end of the wire to the battery and the other to a fuse under the seat so it only comes on with the ignition.

Good info! I'm looking for more technical instructions on how to add the lights. I though there is a way to tap into the headlight? The wires it came with aren't long enough to reach the battery

DJS, can you provide a reference on those fork clamps you used to mount the lights

There is an accessory connector in the headlight shell that you can tap. It is fused 10A. There is another accessory connector back by the battery. To use either, you can buy connectors, pins and a crimp tool (I did) or either cut it off and connect to the wires, or splice into them if you desire.
