Hey, I have a 2014 standard CB1100. Does anybody know if you can go one tooth bigger on the rear sprocket? Has anyone done it? If so, how did it affect the performance? And who sells one? -- thanks

You can certainly do it...there's plenty of chain slack to accept a larger sprocket, and you'll also shorten the wheelbase by a centimeter or so (probably not noticeable in terms of handling). As I'm sure you're already aware, this mod will give you slightly better acceleration, at the cost of extra rpms at any given speed.

As far as I know, you'll be the first on this forum to go up one in the rear. Most are interested in going the other way, in order to save a few hundred rpms in top-gear highway cruising.

I was planning on doing the same after the holidays! With my 2014 I usually find myself wishing I had something between fifth and sixth gear. At 270lbs and at freeway speed, I feel like the bike is just not happy in sixth gear. I don't do much freeway/highway riding, so a bit more bottom end around town would be nice.

I had 2 more at the rear sprocket and really appreciated it.

I think up to 3 more at the rear sprocket can be handled by the oem chain.

At the first hand I had 1 less at the front sprocket, but disliked the increased vibrations. Thus I reimplemented the original front sprocket and installed 2 more at the rear sprocket.

My bike sings now, really lively and I can keep it on the boil at road speeds and really use all the revs.

I missed being able to take the bike up the rev counter and this has really brought everything into the zone.

There will be vibes at Motorway speeds but nothing too bad. On back roads it just squirts from corner to corner... Ace.

Django- what supplier did you get the sprocket from?

It was a small German dealership. I don't think, you would order there from the USA. But there should be a dealer in the US. These sprockets are pretty standard and available in different sizes.

So Jim, did you go to the larger rear sprocket? If you did, which one? Can you share the results? Its raining here and I'm thinking about doing some work on the bike and a 42 or 43 tooth rear sounds like fun. I spend very little time on freeways and would like a little more quickness, in the acceleration, around town and on the twisties.

I have just now found a supplier for the sprocket- by the time I order, it is fabricated, sent and I install it I'll bet it will be about March 1st. But will try to remember to post then
