I just changed my oil on my 2014 standard. I used 10w30sj GN4 motorcycle oil. I used a KN 204 filter that matches the model. When I run the bike the engine is rattling. What gives? I hope beyond hope that it is the loosening of valves but it sounds crappy. Any thoughts?
How much oil did you put in? Did you double check the level after it was warmed up and the filter had time to fill ? Make sure you are on level ground, on the center stand when checking level.
If you put in 3-4 quarts of oil, you should be fine. The bike should take 4 quarts once all is said and done.

When installing a new filter, it's helpful to fill the filter with new oil before installing it. Thus way, the filter isn't starved for oil the first time you start the bike. I'm guessing once your oil pressure comes up, the rattling noise (likely the cam chain) will settle down and go away.

Recommend too that you search the forum for horror stories with K&N filters.
I filled 4 quarts and ran it then checked the level. It was good. Hopefully it just has to work through the system, but it is freaking me out bit. I checked that filter and it was not part of the recall.
Sonnyboy...just out of curiosity why a K&N filter and not an oem filter?
Usually KN makes quality stuff with a strong warranty. Also, first to pop up on Amazon.

I still would not trust that filter personally. The recall did not cover most of the filters with known failures either. But, as long as you keep an eye on it for any signs of leaks you should be fine. Replace it if you see any signs of leaking.
