I would prefer shaft drive as well. But that robs the bike of power and would increase the price.
Now that I have learned the factory lubricant in locked inside the rollers with O-rings, I use wax instead of greasy oils to protect the chain from rusting. The chain, swing arm, rear wheel and fender now remain much cleaner.
