I’m hopefully going to pick up a ‘13 in a few days. The owner let me know that the battery is original and may not last too much longer.
I have a new YTX14-BS in my garage. It’s the same length and width as the spec battery for the CB, but it’s quite a bit taller looking at the dimensions on the Yuasa website.
I didn’t think to study the battery and it’s installation in the bike. I’m wondering if a taller battery would fit ok based on its location and hold down on the CB.

Not alot of room where the battery goes in the CB. I would be suprised if it fits.
The cables probably will not be long enough , go with a new Yuasa OEM battery , not cheap but very good.
What Houtman said. Plus, even if you manage to kludge up the cables, the tool box won’t fit back.

Thats where it is. Remove a screw and plastic pin and the tray lifts out. Battery is under it. There should be a strap around the battery to lift it out. It’s a real tight fit.

I reckon Flynrider retro-fitted a LiON charger module with the battery? Or is the battery "smart" and comes with that electronics integrated into the battery?

Not exactly sure what that is, GO. Are you talking about something that's installed on the bike with the battery? As far as I know, nothing like that is required. The CB1100's charging system specs meet the battery's requirements.
If you're talking about an external trickle or float charger, I don't use 'em. I ride the CB several times a week, year round, so I've never had a need for one.
Edit: I know that the battery has some smarts integrated. Comes with a button on top that shows state of charge, and it also has a cutoff circuit to prevent a deep discharge, which I inadvertently testing by leaving the ignition on overnight. Not sure what other "smarts" are integrated.
