I could be wrong but I think that part is stainless steel. By gray you're referring to this color right?

Its not paint. Polished aluminum then clear coated.
Welcome to the Forum Mabel. When not elsewhere, you will be here.
Welcome Mabel. The ‘colour’ depends on the year, doesn’t it?
Black and brushed aluminum /w clear coat finish. Was there another?
Yes, there have been other finishes. My 2018 has painted covers and cylinder/head (ugh!).

I've enquired about the colour code, but Honda direct UK customers to RS Paint (sales@rsbikepaint.co.uk), who make up the paint to order.

I have a damaged blade on the cylinder that requires painting. However, RS do NOT have a Honda paint code for this silver grey and have asked me to send a small part so they can paint match it. Not the "Honda Service" I'm used to...

Quite why Honda have chosen to paint rather than polish the cases, I don't know. Cheaper?
Most unsatisfactory as the paint chips.
Yes, very. It looks "cheap" when you see it close-up. But to remove it from the cylinders and heads would be a nightmare.

The various side covers will polish up nicely- they're all cast alloy - not st steel.
