I haven't ever lubed the throttle cables, but I figure after 4 years, a bit of oil couldn't really hurt. All the youtube videos I've seen show the tech with a throttle cable that's already been removed from the bike. However, It looks like getting at the lower end of the throttle cables on the CB1100 can be a little involved.
Can you inject the lube from the top, keeping the cables on the frame, without messing anything up?
I hate pulling the tank off. To me it's easier to pull the throttle apart at the top. There isn't enough slack in the cables to slide the throttle pipe off unless you undo the handlebar clamps and slide the bars to the left. Sounds like a lot of hassle, but simpler to me than pulling the fuel line connector off.
I have not used lubricated the cables yet on my CB 1100's but on other bikes I opened the top and with a VERY small needle on a syringe injected a lubricant like WD 40.

I read in an other forum that WD40 may not be a good choice as any mineral oil will cause the nylon inners in the cables to swell and grab. WD40 is more a solvent (WD stands for 'Water Displacement') than a lubricant.
Better use (any) dedicated cable lube.

Better use (any) dedicated cable lube. That is the reason that I have not used WD 40 on my CB 1100's , I was talking about earlier bikes !
I’d imagine with modern tolerances, and materials there isn’t a need to lube cables and it could easily do more harm than good. And yea- wd40 is not a magic cure all oil that everyone thinks it is. Leave it on your shelf.
