Just use 10w-40 if you don't have any 10w-30.

My understanding is that you can always mix different specs, but mineral with mineral and synthetic with synthetic.

Isn't mixing mineral and synthetic and it should give you semi synthetic???

Mixing different oils is not recommended because they could use different additives and they could not get on well. It is a chemical thing, mixing them could create laques or muds.
