what a great idea for a thread... I'm a 53 yr. old partner in a distribution company. I'm pretty active and cycle 3 seasons a year (road cyclist). gave up my motorcycle back when I was about 19 or so? just around university-had a Suzuki gl550 I think? last year was thinking about getting back into motorcycling and one day while in servicing my Honda vehicle I stumbled across the CB1100 and instantly fell in love. I spent the summer researching the CB and thanks to this site I ended up buying one. Almost got an adventure bike but very glad I got the CB instead. Its one beautiful, cool and classy machine and I'm loving every minute on it.

Suzuki 550 ?.. if it smoked when you were riding

it was either a GT 550 3 cyl 2 stroke

or a GS 550 4 cyl 4 stroke ....with bad rings

hi Ferret, you really know your stuff Wink
it was a 550 4 cyl 4 stroke (so a GS). My memory is good just very short ...lol
It didnt have any engine issues that i was aware of at the time or remember..?
it was a great bike to me back in the day ..
I was just funnin.. No the both the Suzuki 550s were fine bikes and the GS was probably a little easier to live with being a 4 stroke. There was no history of engine troubles on either that I am aware of. maybe some middle cylinder seizing on the 2 stroke, but that may have been the 380.

That said of you had one of each and offered one to me, I would take the 2 stroke triple. Loved em!

BTW just read an article about a guy that bought a zero miles GT 550 Suzuki off Craigslist. Had been in a crate for 40 years. Literally a brand new bike 40 years old. Had never had gas in it. Simply amazing.
