Perhaps so...while it can be a slang term to mean "semen"--and not limited to the U.S. south--I took it to be a phonetic spelling of how the question word "what" typically sounds in informal, spoken English, where the final /t/ of "what" sounds more like a /d/. It's common...often written with 2 /d/ as in
Whaddup?
Waddle it be? (where the 'h' might get dropped as another sign of informality)
I've heard "What it be" pronounced with a /d/ instead of /t/ countless times. I've never thought of the slang meaning of the word in question...I've simply answered the question. Maybe the fact it's written with one /d/ is what brings up comment on the usage.
Appologies for the tangent away from the main topic. I took a lot of linguistics courses way back when, and we frequently studied crazy little details like this.
Guess I will have to add the "h" next time, as in "Whad".
