So I contacted Honda Dealers UK to get a replacement key

Their response

Blank Key £86.46

Key Cutting £15

Key Coding £48

Total £149.46

So I bought 2 genuine Honda key blanks from Japan (35121-MGP-D01)

£45 for two blanks postage and VAT to UK was £24.00

Had local locksmith cut them (he did 2 for £20)

Bought a HISS programming cable from ebay (you can make it yourself but the parts were about the same price as ready made lead) £19.99

Total cost £109

!0 minutes to recode and there you have two new original Honda keys for £40 less than 1 new key from dealer :-)

Our US friends won’t worry as their CBs weren’t fitted with HISS, but I’d be interested to know how you do the reprogramming.

The cable is purely a 100 ohm resistor in the positive line with (for my bike) connected to a Sumitomo HM 090 MT - 2 Pin Connector. But as I mentioned, by the time i bought the clips, cable and plug etc it was easier and cheaper to buy it ready made :-) Same process for most Hondas with HISS the only difference is the type of connector used for the crank position sensor.

The only Honda that came to the US with HISS was the Rune. Missing keys/problems programming them was a big warranty headache and expense.

I had trouble finding the CKP connector on my 2014SAE until I checked the service manual - it's on the RIGHT side of the bike. 

The connectors on the left hand side look promising, but don't use those by mistake. They're for the side stand and the emissions sensors.

I bought a kit online to connect up and program the key. I know you can make one yourself pretty easily, but I just wanted it sorted asap. It had the 2 pin shumitomi connector.

Key (35121-MGP-D01): £30 (eBay UK)
Cutting: £2
Cable for programming: £20

That was very kind of them.

That is a very nice color of blue. They didn't sell blue in the US, as far as I can tell. Lucky you. I can't wait to see photos of it in the English countryside or villages. 

It's an odd thing to me, Nachodaddy, that North America — likely one of the bigger markets for the CB1100 — had no colour options. Even in the small Australian market, it came in red, black, white, and blue.
