Not sure why the size matters, but let me give you a better estimate based on numbers we do already know:
- from forum statistics : 300,000 posts
- bare size of one average post ~ 2k of text
- database overheads per post up to 20k of text
= this turns it into 300,000 * 22kB ~ 6.5GB

- come on top pictures, but only those pictures uploaded as a real attachment (links through imgur etc. do not take up space)
- my guess only on in a 50 posts uses this feature
- pic size is limited to 250 kB
- 300,000 / 50 * 250kB ~ 1.5 GB

- finally space to expand in the future ...

All in all the forum database today, I cannot imagine is more than a total of 10 GB, a far cry from the 1TB mentioned before. I haven't seen a cloud hosting service lately, not offering this amount or much larger. In other words, our 10 (or future 20) GB can be hosted anywhere in the world at very low cost.

Based on the idea that even a bad guess is always better than no idea at all ...I hope this helps.

Well, given that, as metaphysical questions go, “Does size matter” is right up there with questions about the existence of god and free will, it’s not altogether surprising that even you are not sure, j3gq ... Big Grin

The point of the size question is that misterprofessionality is looking to download the entire forum to a private drive to make sure its data is at least preserved. I had thought to do the same thing. For my part, I have no interest in owning the forum or becoming it’s administrator; nor do I want to host the data for others to access. But, if needed, I’d be happy to try to capture the data to hand it on to someone who might want to resurrect the forum in the future. Knowing how much storage may be required will help.

HONDA Co does not, but the Forum members subsidize Honda by writing interesting threads, posts, articles, issue technical notes, place photos so the guest visiting this Forum are encouraged to buy the CB1100 or other Honda motorcycle models......

Yes, I subsidize Honda by buying their motorcycles! Cool

However, the number of bikes that they currently manufacture that I would be interested in buying is fewer than it was ten years ago. They still have some cool bikes, eg., Fury, Shadow, NT750, Rebel 1100, but the direction Honda North America seems to be headed seems like they're not very interested in customers like myself, eg , 50 sumthin' guy who's been riding since I was a kid.

I get it, they need to attract new riders, but investing in internet forums and building great and classic bikes seems like a wiser approach than the Ruckus, Grom, and DCT stuff...

These are just the market forces we all have to get used to. Look at Kawasaki, they have more of an investment in "retro style" bikes than any other japanese brand and yet their bread and butter sales leaders are still Z400s, Ninja 400s, and Vulcan 650s. affordable beginner bikes. Suzuki's big performance bike sales are slowing down so much that they're ducking out of MotoGP altogether, and they're not even bothering with a Retro offering anymore (the TU250 is gone), preferring instead to slap "bold new graphics" on the same bikes they've been making for 15 years now. Yamaha's bread and butter is the R3 and Mt07 sales, two smaller more affordable bikes that younger riders buy. even BMW sees the writing on the wall with the steady expansion of the G310 platform, another 300cc bike for beginners and younger riders. that said, Honda has a commitment to their retro market that they've never let go hungry for too long. They have the Monkey, Super Cub, Trail 125, and there's something new on the horizon to replace the CB1100. It will probably have the Africa Twin lump in it.

Have to disagree about the DCT. It's a brilliant transmission, that appeals to beginners and older riders alike. As a 72 yo owner of a 750 DCT who has put 15,000 on it in a year, its truly a revelation in riding.

The CB's 1100 motor coupled with a DCT trans would be the bomb. I'd buy one in a heartbeat, but it will never happen. I-4's are looking at popularity and production in the rear view mirror.
Don’t ask me, I still buy stick shift cars!

Nuttin' wrong being olde school. The practice will be around a few more years yet.

The only gearbox faster than a DCT is a Sequential Transmission, however, it is harsher (but lighter), and has to be rebuilt often. It uses a clutch, but typically used only at first gear launch. The race world keeps lookin' forward.
DCT's are so efficient they are outlawed in MotoGP. They are like quick shifters only faster and smoother
Well at some point it stops being ‘racing’ eh?

I'm so over manual transmissions (still stuck with 'em on the bikes). Trying to get unstuck in the snow was so much easier with an auto vs. manual. Commuting - ha! Automatics win hands down. Especially if forced to go through town.

Let's bring up the stress in a marriage if you try to train the wife on your stick shift. Been there, done that - would rather remodel the kitchen again! Big Grin

I learned to use a stick shift on the hills of Duluth MN - winter and summer (a more practical skill set than track time....... Big Grin ) and I'm good at it. But just because I have skills with a manual does not mean I prefer it. But hey, we have a choice!

Plan B. Make this a static site that we could access as a data source (maybe even linked to any of the Facebook groups for the CB). Still a lot of good information that should remain relevant for many years. Even if we can't update it.
