Yea, was never meant to be a serious subject, I posted it to lighten things up. I shift by sound and feel. I know when I look at the tach I'm usually shifting around 3500- 3750 rpms, no matter which of my bikes I am on. Today is the first time I tried to pay attention to how fast I was going on each shift, because of that silly page in the manual.
Yeah, those points are silly, I'm thinking there is some vague legal reason, the lawyers probably told them to say that. Why else would they print something so absurd. Just a guess.........

Shifting to 6th at 37 mph? That should be somewhere in the low 2,xxx rpm range. I can't imagine lugging the engine at that rpm is good for it.
what the manual says is -- these recommended shift points is the MIN speed where you should shift up or you can harm the engine. It doesn't say these points are when you SHOULD shift
Not sure where you READ that? Here's the page

It clearly says " recommended shift points". Not that it matters because no one is going to shift at those points regardless.
Today I paid attention to where I normally shift when riding
1st to 2nd at 20 mph, to 3 rd at 35 to 4 th at 45 and to 5 th at 55
coincidentally this falls nicely into the speed zones we have..

this is a lost in translation, what you think was what I think in first read. people can't really translate thoughts w/o loosing nuance.
think: the cup is half empty or the cup is half full - same volume, depend on where you are, be my guess
