Probably the best bike Honda ever made....shame they lost their way..
One of the forum members texted me a few days ago, and sent me some pics. He just picked up a project bike that's 49 years old. Bought it from original owner. Has 4,724 miles on it. Tires are even original. You'd think this would be unusual but it's more common than most people know. I get notices on my tablet of bikes for sale and you wouldn't believe how many 10 year old bikes come up with less than 5000 miles on them. The lowest I saw was about a 6 year old bike with 40 (FORTY) miles on it.

In our own classifieds is a 2013 CB1100 with 2,100 miles on it (about to turn 10 years old). I'm guessing Honda didn't make any money on any valve adjustments with that one lol.
If you can tell me how to switch my dash back to miles you might be amazed at the answer I tell you.

Very low miles.. '14 model bought in '16 leftover.

Dealer made nothing on service- but I have bought a lot of Honda parts from numerous vendors.

Dealer did however get my repeat business since I did just buy a new Aprilia from them cash...and rode it home...and then once since for about 15 minutes.

Piece of cake. Press both buttons at the same time and the hour will start flashing, press right button and minutes will start flashing, press right button again and miles/ km will change, ( press left button to change from km to miles,) press both buttons to escape. I think I have that right.

My 1998 Honda VFR800 (best bike I ever owned) has gear driven cams. This makes it SO much easier to adjust the valves - no cam chain or cam chain sprocket(s) to remove.

I performed the first two valve inspections on this bike at the recommended mileage, and both times all the clearances were in spec. I didn't have to adjust any valves until I reached 56,000 miles (bike now has 116,000 miles).

Yes, tis so. Particularly impressed with Harley's use of a zero-maintenance hydraulic self-adjusting lifters though. That 1250 engine has bags of character. A low 5,000-mile oil service interval but maybe that is there to give the hydraulics a fighting chance.

For someone like me that does not pay attention I put Harleys in the same category as the classic pushrod American cars that are perfectly happy for you to shift it 4000, 4500.

I know there are a few high-performance models of American cars that can compete with the Germans, etc. but that is a relatively recent and high cost option compared to the normal stuff.

Although I suppose for what Harley charges for the bikes they should compete and not be what they were when I was a kid.

But I would still guess with hydraulic lifters, their RPM limit is probably 7K, 75? Maybe 8K w/ a bikes smaller valves compared to cars- but I wouldn’t expect much past that.

It is actually a tasty 9500rpm and it loves being thrashed. They went for DOHC, for component lightness I suspect and Variable Valve Timing. The 150HP on tap is very top end, very unHarleylike (if that is a real word).

Quoting the blurb here Computer-controlled variable valve timing (VVT) independently advances or retards intake and exhaust timing through a potential range of 40 degrees of crankshaft rotation, with the goal of broadening the powerband to deliver ample low-end torque as well as high-rpm horsepower
Some cage manufacturers have been offering camshaftless implementations for years. Intake and exhaust are completely controlled by solenoid management. Firmware design and hardware robustness must be top-shelf to be reliable. In return, total customization of the timing with infinite variableness, less weight, as well as a lower mechanical profile engine top end. I suspect implementation is not perfect since we'd see more deployment in vehicle production.
