I recently found out that the CB1100 does not like mud.

With all the recent rain and flooding here in North Texas, my yard is a "lake". Ankle-deep water in ponds around the yard. I don't have much of a driveway, so I usually ride through the yard, but that has become a problem. I've gouged ruts in the yard and made it through OK, until yesterday.

As I rode in, I slid the bike off the concrete into the spongy, soft ground. The front tire's bottom was instantly surrounded by mud and the bike stopped cold. I could go no further forward or back. Fortunately, there was enough concrete to put down the sidestand and step away from the bike to survey the situation.

I took off my helmet and gear and set to work tugging and pulling until I backed the bike out onto the concrete. Man, that CB is a heavy bike!

Can you get mud tires or knobbys for the CB1100? Just kidding; I love this bike.

It seems that it's designed and balanced so well that the weight of it really isn't noticed until you are pushing it forward or backward. I'll try and avoid mud. With my luck I would have slipped and dropped it on top of me.

If you remove your RLETs and place one under the front tire and the other under the rear, you'll have sufficient traction to escape any bog, quick sand, or mud pit that threatens to trap your CB in place.

I recently sold my (2014) Valkyrie and ended up with a CB1100. Compared to the Valkyrie the CB feels like a bicycle!

One time I was going down a hill on the Valkyrie and near the bottom of the hill, around a curve, there were concrete barriers across the road, with no way to go between them. The road was "out of service" since the last time I had ridden through there! Anyways, I stopped within 2-3 feet of the concrete barriers and when I later figured out I needed to leave from whence I came, I couldn't push the bike back up the hill (backwards) at all, to turn it around! I ended up doing 1000+ 3 point turns, each about a millimeter closer to freedom. The bike got real hot and the clutch got a bit cranky but I survived. It seems funny now but at the time it kicked my arse bad!

This rain and mud kinda makes me miss my KLR. If it got stuck at least I could lift the rear to a different spot.

About the RLETs, I thought those were "lucky charms" to help me avoid trouble.

Good thing you got out of the mud, bro. With the bike that heavy, it could have taken 2 grown men to tug it off that mud..
