Hello, according to someone, cross beam is used to express the placement of the 4-cylinder-in line engine whih was positioned accross the frame beam.
However most people say it does not mean nothing exactly.
I have asked to the boss of the communication for honda europ, Ian baker, I answered it was a question without solution, nobody now knows exactly what it means exactly.

CB has been around longer than the 4 cyl engine. If anything, it's a diminutive of Cub.
