I am seriously considering a new bike. I prefer a sporty standard with a neutral riding position. The CB1100 and Triumph Bonneville (17" wheels) top my list. Is price the only compelling reason to pick up '13 vs '14 CB ? I appreciate your input and this forum as a resource.
I like the red better than black, but I wanted 6 gears more. I bought a 2014 in black, easier to find than the 'deluxe'.
I've had both...trading in my 13 for a 14 Deluxe last year. I traded for a bunch of reasons, namely the 6 speed tranny, the chrome headers, the 4 into 2 pipes, and the silver engine. The bigger tank is nice, so is the updated instrument panel. And I obviously paid more to do it so I think the difference was worth it...but it's ultimately a personal decision.
Obviously, the '13s are a bit cheaper, but I think that good deals can be had on either year. I got a leftover '13 mostly because I liked the lower weight (these bikes are a bit top heavy - not really noticeable except at lower speeds, but that was a concern for me) and the few niggling details that bothered me cosmetically compared to the '14 were easily remedied with aftermarket parts. Maybe the 6-speed would be nicer, but with the kind of riding I do, it really wasn't a problem for me.
With either bike you're getting a beautifully crafted machine that looks as good as it runs. You can't lose either way, IMO!
Best of luck -
There's lots of discussion of the differences between models on the forum. The main differences between the standard models are the colour, the number of gears and the instruments. The 2014 deluxe model then adds a bigger tank, different seat, 4 into 2 and is a different colour. For more info,, use the forum's search engine.

Cheers
differences between the 2013 std and 2014 dlx

(in no particular order)

1 Silver motor vs black
2 Silver wheels vs black with silver edges
3 4 into 2 exhaust vs 4 into 1
4 Chrome waterfall head pipes vs snaky stainless head pipes
5 ABS standard
6 Taller, patterned seat vs plain
7 Polished master cylinder covers for clutch and front brake vs black
8 Chrome bar ends vs black
9 Polished top triple tree vs painted
10 Headlight raised an inch
11 Horns raised an inch
12 Smaller turn signals
13 Front sprocket cover now aluminum instead of plastic
14 Color matched side covers instead of silver
15 Side covers wrap around frame vs sotting inside of frame
16 4.6 fuel tank vs 3.9
17 New speedo limited to 120 mph
18 New instruments have different patterned faces
19 Digital gear indicator
20 Fuel computer that tells fuel used, ave mpg, fuel remaining
21 Passenger grab rails on a different angle to follow contour of new seat
22 Passenger grab rails polished
23 New left hand switch assy to match other 2014 Hondas ( I put a 13 switch back on mine)
24 Front forks take different amts of oil in each leg (for some reason but its new for 2014)
25 Rear axle size reduced (lower torque required for some reason but it's new for 14)
26 A little easier to do oil change if you want to count that lol
27 570 lbs wet dlx vs 540 lbs wet std ( due to ABS, larger fuel tank, 7/10 gallon more fuel, aluminum vs plastic sprocket cover, and extra exhaust pipe = 30 pounds weight difference)
28 6 speed transmission
29 DLX handlebars 1/2" taller

The 2014 std gets the black treatment applied to the 2013 std, plus the 6 speed trans plus the dlx instruments, gear indicator and trip computer only with black faces.
I did a Craigslist search a few days ago and found a couple used and lots of brand new CB's for sale in the south. Either would be fine imo, and through the forum you can find lots of stuff to personalize yours. Enjoy!!!

Bear.....You can't go wrong with the Bonnie either as it's a great bike as well. I prefer the styling of the T100 better than the SE however; the tank looks too fat with the 17" front in my opinion. The pre-FI Bonnies nailed the classic Brit bike look to me (I've owned three variants).

I love my 2001 Bonnie but don't know that I would buy a new one today. The CB gives you a lot more for the money and provides the retro-standard styling that attracts so many to both. The Scrambler is still my favorite Bonneville variant and I wish I would have kept my 07.

I recently purchased a 2014 CB (Standard) and couldn't be happier. I went with the 14' STD as that is what a dealer close to me had and at a great price as well. The Bonnie and CB offer similar riding positions and handling characteristics with the obvious differences in the powerplant.

Regardless, good luck with your decision and keep us posted!
Had a Triumph Bonneville a few years ago. Solid bike but no power at all, sold it fairly quickly. Enjoyed it but just didn't perform well enough. Been reading about the new 2016 Triumph, sounds intriguing but first model years always scare me.
Got a new old stock red 2013 at an absolute steal, $7,500 in June. Would loved to have had the newer one with a six speed and some nicer "stuff" but WTF, at that price I got a great bike at used bike price.
I like to ride bikes, not anal-lies them.
Spend money of gas not accessories.
