I wear the gear all the time. Five different CE armor leather and/or textile jackets to pick from, dependinding on temperature/rain. Diamond Gusset Kevlar jeans, numerous motorcycle gloves to pick from from, Shoei RF1100, motocross knee guards to fit under the jeans, dual back protectors in my jackets... Gear I've accumulated over the years. I know we have all heard the old cliche that it is "better to sweat than to bleed." Having hit the pavement a number of times in my rambunctious/boy racer youth, I know it to be true from experience. Ps, forgot my Alpinestar Tech 2 boots
ATGAAT is why Spring and Fall are my favorite riding seasons.
The common summer riding gear for most cruiser riders in south Georgia are cut-off jeans, T-shirt or denim vest, novelty helmet and sneakers. Having had the unpleasant experience of sliding on asphalt it makes me cringe when I see one so clad on the road. I also admit that on extremely hot days I will wear a long sleeve shirt (not as abrasion protection but as a sun block) as the heat and humidity are too much to take with any riding jacket. Riding while wearing the shirt, I always feel uneasy and it's not something I often do. Anyway, riding with the gear or not is still more risk than many folks would be willing to take and non riders think we're all crazy for riding at all.
My younger brother recently gave up riding. He runs his own guitar repair business and has decided the risks are too great that he could be injured and not able to work. He recently tuned 60 and I fully understand his concerns.
Atgatt for me, never make the same mistake twice.
Accumulated lots of gear over the years so I may as well wear it.

I have mentioned it on here before, but I cannot stress how good the Motoport Air Mesh jackets are in the heat.

I live south of Houston, where temp & humidity are much like what you deal with. I have recently been having to ride with my textile mesh jacket, as the result of having become a bit too large to fit into my Motoport! Having finally dropped some pounds, I was back into my Air Mesh on last Saturdays ride. Like night and day wearing the Kevlar Air Mesh compared to the textile mesh. The weave on the Kevlar is much more open allowing great air flow. This, and the fact that it is 10 times stronger than full grain leather is what sold me.

Like driving without my seatbelt, I just don't feel protected. Mesh helps in summer. Boots and gloves are a huge must for me. I ride to hiking destinations so I often bring my hiking boots but always change on arrival. I have a scorpion exo900, so its full face or 3/4 depending on how hot it is.
I will make a correction, I don't own any riding pants. I have rain pants but they are much too warm for my commute and don't have any armor (though they are very thick textile, I would say significantly more protection than standard leather chaps). Any suggestions on an affordable, 3 season pant that can be worn over jeans (I'm vegan, so textile is a must, but all suggestions welcome)?
I always ride with a jacket and in the summer I have a BMW textile jacket I think called a venting machine. It works well. I normally always ride with my Aerostitch over pants and gloves. I will periodically ride to work with my dress shoes but no boots with the above other protective gear. I feel naked without them. I wear a full face Arai helmet.

You are in Cinti. i suggest riding out to sport tour near tri county mall and looking at their rack of textile riding and over pants and see what appeals to you. You can try them on and they are as cheap as anywhere I think. Plus nice guys

I saw a young couple at a gas station fueling up their bike other day here in LA. What I noticed, (besides her being easy on the eyes) was that the girl was very concerned with getting enough sunblock on her legs before they got back on the bike..... all she had on was a t-shirt, cowboy boots and hot pants!
I thought to myself that she won't have any skin left to worry about sunburning if she falls off that bike.
Oh, but she did have on a full face helmet!
That kind of sight makes me cringe.
