I don't have a regular dealer that I could hit up for the 8,000 service. Anyone know of a quality mechanic in the north jersey/NYC area that they can recommend?
Yes. tell us where you are or the exact area you want to find someone. You can be in NNJ and be one minute from NYC or still be in NNJ and be 2 hours from NYC.
Sorry for the delay. I'm in north jersey but work in NYC. I'm going to take it to Honda/Yamaha in LIC, based on local recommendations. They're doing it in a single day.
let us know what they say about the valves, if any need shimming.

I'll add an enthusiastic recommendation for Burgers Motorcycles in Three Bridges, near Flemington, NJ. Great owner, great service department, harkens back to the simpler days.

I've never had service there but bought two bikes from Darin @ NY Honda Yam. Best prices and honest reputable dealer.
