Use Firefox and delete the s at the end of https in the Forum address bar before hitting enter.

The forum owner just needs to get the SSL certificate.
It is a quick and easy thing to do and is common place for many years now.
In fact, if he can just tell us who he uses as a hosting provider, I could probably quickly google and get him the exact steps he needs to take.
For now, you can just go up into your browser, toolbar and disable the security and it will show up like it used to in the old days.
