Then there's the old trade-off between torque and horsepower. Low-restriction intake and higher-lift cams with more overlap may generate more power at wide-open throttle, but at the sacrifice of low-end torque and a low-rpm stable idle. I think Honda did an amazing job of threading the needle, considering all of the contradictory and competing objectives they had to address.

I have absoluetly no problem with someone who thinks they would like to make their own bike into what they believe would make it better for them, whether that is by making more power, more sound (within legal limits) upgraded suspension, make it a cafe, make it a drag racer, make it a bobber, make it a tourer, make it a different color, whatever. There are a lot of things people do to their CB1100 here, that confuses me, confounds me even when it comes to modifying the CB1100, but that's ok, better than ok even, because even though we are all doing different things to our CB1100s, we are all fans of the basic bike... and that's very cool. A wonderful canvas that we all get to make a masterpiece in our own eyes out of.
Rest easy, Ferret.
I bought the CB1100 EX because I like its retro looks. Apparently so do a lot of other people, because I get compliments about it every where I stop for food or gas.
I don't understand the need for more horsepower as my CB spends most of the day loafing at 3000 RPM while breezing along at 20 KPH over the speed limit. Quickly passing a couple of cars or big truck only required a click of the gear shift and flick of the wrist. Yesterday because I deliberately avoided the slabs for twisty and quieter roads, I never engaged sixth gear.
Personally I would like a 750cc bike with similar retro looks, 20 less horsepower, and 100 pounds less weight. Oh, and a taller and softer seat for those 600 kilometer (350 mile) day rides.
If you're not beholden to Honda, check out the '17 Moto Guzzi V7 Special. I think it checks all your boxes (except for seat height).
