The motorcycle mob in the GTA was discussed on here before. Here is a follow up article. I'm glad there are some repurcussions for the fools, because one of them dying in an effort to evade law enforcement wasn't deterrent enough.

Laying a dozen charges after the fact will do absolutely nothing to prevent similar events in the future. Unless the police has the courage, the wisdom and the resources to act when such riots are in progress, all we should expect is more of the same.
Well the time before that they had a pursuit and someone died. I think the follow up is better than them straight getting away with it. But with people stupid enough to come to a complete stop on a Toronto highway to block all lanes and pull wheelies I don't suppose there is a deterrent for that level of stupidity. You can put a sign that says electric fence, there are still a few that have to find out first hand. I am happy to say in the photos I don't think I saw a single CB1100....
Pretty tough thing, I think, to round up a bunch of riders "in the act". I've seen videos of police attempts at this and they did not go well. In fact, the police actions probably created more chaos than the riders would have created otherwise. I'm not an expert on this sort of thing, but it seems a step in the right direction to hold as many people accountable as possible for these actions even if it is after the fact. Unless you work in law enforcement with a specialty in dealing with mobs on motorcycles, you can't credibly state that these actions will do nothing.

The small likelihood (ten from the crowd of several hundred) of being charged and fined, or even jailed for a short period - unlikely as it is - just adds to the thrill of such "productions". How difficult it is to deal with the mob "then and there" is not an issue here; it is difficult, but can't be compared to the neurosurgery or sending a probe to Saturn.
The issue is what will, and what will not prevent such productions in the future. Those ten charges will not do so.

Oh, they have the resources. (Search the web for "toronto+police+G20+protests"). But confronting thousands engaged in a borderline political protest in sufficient numbers and adequate technology seems for Toronto police to be of significantly higher priority than confronting a bunch of sociopathic punks.
Would I be quite as aggressive as Toronto police was on that occasion? No, but there probably is a point half-way between the viewing of a riot newsreel and stopping the crowd with massive use of water cannons, horses and sound guns. (Especially when spike-belts would to the trick

Gonna have to make an example out of one. Sucks to be him but if you were thrown in jail for 5 years others may not be so quick be such idiots.
If the law made it a misdemeanor to run over any group intentionally blocking roads , a $50 fine if they are wearing a mask and a community service award if they were terrorizing , busting windows and destroying private property the entire problem would go away .......
