I’ve been contacted by a forum member who has asked to remain anonymous. He has received a communication from Photobucket as follows:

I didn’t get this email and I’ve posted lots more photos on that wretched site. What’s going on?
I can’t find the whoopy-do emoticon.
I received the same email. Not much of a bargain in my opinion.
"botophucket"
that is exactly what I am going to tell those deekwads
their greed has ruined thousands of great motorcycle trip reports on many forums
"botophucket"
$100 a year?
Funny thing is- it's not that they don't incur costs for hosting, not that they shouldn't charge for their hosting service- it's how they went about it all.
Nope.
I didn't get the email. I deleted my account when they held it for ransom. On top of the shady way they went about the change, the site had become almost unusable due to the incessant ads and pop-ups.
Bye-bye Botophucket!
Unfortunately, I can't seem to find some of the original photos I uploaded to PB. I am in the process of downloading them. By pure coincidence

there is a 'known issue' with the ability to download entire folders at one time which started just exactly at the time that they raised their fees. So, I'm downloading each picture one at a time. Pretty tedious with the pop-ups and such. I'll get 'er done, though.

That is often the way business is done on the Internet. Offer something for free, then after gathering a clientele charge a fee or plaster the site with pop-up ads.
No worse than phone, cable TV, and Internet providers. Advertise a cheap rate in big letters and a lot of hoopla, with a note at the bottom in unreadable tiny print that it's only for 90 days. After that the price doubles.
Yea- not quite the same as free picture hosting for 15+ years and then pull the plug with no earlier fine print...

Something like this might help to automatise the tedious process.

Received the same email (twice). As luck would have it; I renewed my subscription of $29.95/yr just before the $400/yr took effect. This coming June is when the Botophucket switch turns my photos into one caption...
