Even worse on a CB, as the filter will dump the oil right in front of the rear tire. I think I've seen a few posts over the years where someone on the forum made this mistake.

One of the things I always do after removing the old filter is to run my finger around the seating surface to make sure it's smooth and free of debris.

It ended up being not so bad. Cleaned up the drain pan and only lost half a quart when I pulled the drain plug and put the washer back on. All is good!
