Hello -

I am organizing my little (3 couples/6 bikes) MC group's annual trip.   This year, I've decided on going north, through Wisconsin, west to Minnesota and north and east in Canada along the shores of Lake Superior.  We'd return through the UP of MI and then back south to Illinois.

I have most of the Wisconsin routes all planned out, having ridden enough in the area.   I need a little help, though, with things to do (hiking, fly fishing, kayaking), places to see (lighthouses, other points of interest), good lodging, and great food once we cross into Canada.  As this is a special trip in celebration of Cheryl's 60th birthday, I'd like to include at least a few stays in what might be called deluxe accommodations and certainly want to avoid any of those places with buzzing fluorescent lights in the bathroom (you know the type of place).    Has anyone taken a trip along that section of Highway 17?  I would love any feedback, positive or otherwise.

Also, The Ferret has connected me with some articles on the area from Roadrunner, so I'm good on that front.

Thank you all in advance.

That's going to be an awesome trip. I do half of that each year on our annual canada fishing trip, and my motorcycle group wants to do that exact route this year as well. From Duluth MN to Canada along the Superior coast is very gorgeous, plenty of rest stops along the way that give you access to some wonderful views.
We always crossed at the Pigeon river crossing which is right along the superior coast. Before that is a place called Ryden's which has the best beef jerky money can buy if that's your thing. We always stock up on a few pounds, and we are lucky if any come home with us after the fishing trip.
Otherwise we usually stop at Neebing Roadhouse outside of thunder bay, very nice Burger joint with amazing poutine. I did not get the poutine the first time we went there and really regretted it when I tasted some of what my friends had got.
I can't speak for any accommodations, as this is our hotel room and view.

You do not want to know what that yellow bucket has been through.....

Good luck on the trip, it will be a lot of fun!
