ribbed top for more retro look I think. Also Ryan used red and gray thread to go with the red/gray pinstripes theme on the tank.
besides looking better, Ryan uses several foam types to re-do the seat foam to support more of ones butt so there are no pressure points under your sit bones either.
if you're in the neighborhood give Ryan a call if you're getting a sore butt on longer rides.

Very cool! I had a local upholsterer do something similar on my ‘13 seat and love it.

Beautiful seat. I have always sat on whatever left the factory. This post makes me consider other possibilities. Does anyone on the Forum have an opinion regarding gel vs foam vs some hybrid combination for a seat? Sadly, I am woefully ignorant about seat comfort and durability. Thanks, David

Depends upon the shop. Ryan has available several types/durometers of foam and adjusts them (cutting out and regluing in) according to your butt so it is truly a custom seat. then he sews up a custom cover too. I chose marine grade stuff due to the rain up here. He does have leather of various kinds etc if that is what you prefer.

I'd recommend riding up. Ryan puts the bike in a chock to keep it up right. He and I discussed what wasn't good for me for long rides on the seat (felt like sitting on a 6x6 after an hour). then he took the seat off, pulled the old cover and went to work cutting out factory foam and adding new foam of different durometers. all along the process he had me hopping on the bike for a sit and fit, discussing how if felt and support and such. off and on, cut and glue, shape, optimize seating position, etc. then when it felt good to me he made a new seat cover and put it all back together. Takes about 3 to 4 hours to get it fit to your anatomy and how you sit on the seat. Not sure that could be accomplished without having the bike there with you. but give him a call if you want to do it through mail order process and see what he says.
