Nevertheless, I agree what you describe works smoothly.
And one question, why is downshifting different?

The main and only difference is in spelling:
downshifting <> upshifting

Well, maybe, but there is a price to pay
I guess I am lucky that I never paid close attention to how far in I pull the clutch when I shift - I just fly by the seat of my pants as my old pappy used to say. Too much fun riding to be worrying about all that little picky stuff.
