I enjoyed that video. I am originally from Louisiana, born in Shreveport. Freddie Spencer is a hometown hero. Spencer and Terry Bradshaw are the area's biggest contributions to Civilization.

Anyone here read Freddie's article in Cycle World this past issue? Re: Marquez, championships, riding technique?

Believe it or not those are actually his words. Most racers have a ghost writer churn something out, but Freddie is very sharp and extremely articulate.

Probably the most intellectual World Champ Grand Prix has ever had.

There's a reason he's still held in the highest regard by the racing industry, HRC especially. He's one of the very few guys who can actually explain with great specificity what is right and what is wrong with a motorcycle, at any speed.

I read it, he certainly has that reputation. I have an old friend in Shreveport, he did some handy work for an older couple that lived in his neighborhood. He and I were hanging out one afternoon, and we went to the home of the older couple as they were to reimburse him for some materials he purchased.

The husband very graciously invited us in, and as he and my friend were talking, I noticed the room was plastered with very professionally done framed photographs of Freddie Spencer on various race bikes. Those were my Kawasaki days and I had been following Spencer in the magazines as I did anything that involved going fast. I immediately recognized Spencer.

I asked the gentleman "Who is the Freddie Spencer fan?" He smiled and with great pride told us that they were his Grandparents. He told us that Freddie had grown up in that neighborhood and that they were extremely proud of him. At one point he said that Freddie was very intelligent and that they had been disappointed when he decided to pursue his racing career as he could have been anything he wanted to be.

A few World Championships later, I suppose it all worked out. True story.

Edit.......I am watching the kid,(7 year old we adopted, deaf.), and he distracted me, I originally posted by accident before it was complete.
