Not too long ago, I had to go from LA to San Diego, and decided to take the train to avoid traffic. In the long straight stretch after Oceanside, I had no idea how fast we were going (guessed 60 mph), until we pulled close to the freeway, and like Gone says, we were passing 75-80 mph traffic. It was the most relaxing, comfortable trip to San Diego I've ever taken.

When I worked for Petersen Publishing in West L.A., my commute from Orange was two hours one-way by car. Or, it was two hours taking the Metrolink from Orange to L.A., then the subway, then the bus the rest of the way. I took the trains and bus to save my sanity.
The Petersen Museum is two blocks from the old publishing headquarters, and I make the museum commute on weekends now, usually by motorcycle. But, not a motorcycle commute I'd want to make every weekday. Splitting lanes most of the way would save time during the week, but that's more brain processing power than I possess.
