You're welcome. Touring in Europe is very pleasant once you get away from the big cities (same as it is better in the US away from big cities). The difference is - at least in Germany - there are very defined boundaries between town and country. There is no transition between urban, suburban, exurban, rural. You just ride along for about 10 miles in the country and come to another small town. At each town you can find most essentials, especially a good cup of coffee and good food to eat. Here in the US, as a rule the further out you go from the cities the fewer quality amenities you will find. In many parts of the US it might be hard to even find a place to get a fresh sandwich or a hot meal, and if you are looking for a hotel you might have to ride a long time to find accommodations.

I was in Germany as well last September...Weather was so bad that I rented a BMW...with 4 wheels...Got to beat my personal speed record at 228 KM/h on the Autobahn (perfectly legal and the road was dry...)
FYI BMW 525TD Station Wagon 2 liters twin turbo Diesel.
Car is electronically limited at 250 kph (155MPH) and did 40MPG during the trip...800 miles on a tank. Impressive car for sure...and the have better one...
On the other end, ADVRIDER, has a section dedicated to the CB1100 that started in August 2012...there are 264 pages and almost 4000 posts...lots of people interested.

Sure thing, Cormanus. I would love to join your ranks...I need to save a few pennies first. My plan is to see about making an acquisition in 2015. I've seen some excellent lightly ridden 2013 specimens going for USD $7500 lately, so prices are becoming much more attractive.

You didn't mention if your trip was business or pleasure, but if you are a regular visitor to Germany then may I suggest a trip or two. If I've got it wrong then I know that there are members of this forum who are locals and will be able to help. These rides are Frankfurt based. The Mosel/Rhine, particularly when the wine vintage is brought in. Down to Heidelburg and then across the Rhine and into the area to the east. Further south, in Bavaria and the German/Austrian Alps the possibilities are endless. In the '90s these rides made me fall in love with the VFR750 and I then had to have one. A CB would have enhanced the experience even more.

nice writing up of your impressions riding the CB1100 in Germany. I picked up my CB1100 2014 EX model only a few hours ago. I posted pictures of my first 170 km trip in the Hamburg area today in the "General Discussions" section.

I visit the Stuttgart area on business about 2 or 3 times per year, usually for a week at a time. This last trip in March was the first time I got the idea to rent a Motorrad. The whole experience turned out even better than I expected...I would say that ride was one of the best days of my life! Such a great feeling of freedom to be on an amazing machine in a beautiful country, with enough confidence in my riding and my (limited) German language skills to feel at ease and able to relax and enjoy the experience.
I will certainly take your recommendations into account Pterodactyl, and itsme67 thank you for offering to join me on my next ride. I will head over and take a look at your first trip, itsme67!
