Really sorry to hear about this, but I'm glad to hear that you're okay.

Strangeone, I'm really sorry to hear about your accident, but glad to hear you are OK. As others have said, bikes are replaceable; you're not.

The OP stated that he 'sat the bike up' which seems to be the cause of many crashes. Sometimes 'looking where you want to go' prevents 'going where you look'!

I don't want to appear harsh, I've just seen many avoidable accident from poor planning (for the worst case scenario..as the police ride) or target fixation.

Maybe I should start a new thread to keep this poor guy out of it?

Thank you you for the heartfelt words, as for these; yes it is one more experience that will sit with me for as long as I continue to ride. The sitting the bike up was a Knee-jerk reaction to seeing the SUV partially in my lane on a tight corner. And yes I knew the mistake as soon as it was made.

Target Acquisition is such an important piece; looking for where you want to go. I believe that is what saved my life. (though, i am still wondering if i could have found a better spot.
Thank you to all who have posted your support. I have to say always remember your PPE, Personal Protective Equipment. Maybe take a refresher riders safety course. you are never too old or too wise.
Insurance is totaling the bike as the head tube (or neck) was damaged and requires the whole frame to be replaced. Outside of that the damage was very minor.
And yes I am looking at a newer 2014 model. I have already contacted the dealership to see about placing the order...

Sounds like the description of a good landing in Naval terms. If you can walk away from it; you're good.

In all my get offs I see things I could have done differently. The hard part is remembering them and applying them the next time things go wrong again. After all, what's the use in surviving these things if you can't learn from them?

On the other hand, that is the most drastic and imaginative way to get out of a 2013 and into a 2014. Props to you!

I am so sorry, this accident sucks; a pure nightmare! But I am glad that you are physically ok (emotionally, I imagine you are suffering of losing your bike). Wish you good luck with the insurance and as Rboe said....perhaps it was good for a 2014 model.

I’ll pick up mine tomorrow…and learning from your story I’ll wear full safety gear

Hindsight is 20/20, was there a better option? maybe, maybe not....you had less then 20/20 one hundredth of a second to decide, glad you're okay....

Good News, My insurance came through and i will be picking up my new 2013 CB1100 this Friday. - This time I plan to keep it on the road!!!

great to get back on, may take a while to build confidence back up.
I think my Progressive insurance has Total Cost replacement for the CB if it gets totaled too, they buy you a new one, not give you what KBB shows as its worth.
