Did something for the first time this past Saturday while the temps hit the 70s... rode with a passenger out to one of the forest preserves that ring Chicago! It was truly delightful! I now "get" how exhilarating it is to ride with your girl (in this case my wife) on the pillion perch, holding on tight around your waist! WOW!!

i know how you feel.
too bad my wife won't do it often.
the mrs prefers to ride her own.
not that thats a bad thing.
its how i convinced her to let me get the very first one....

by buying one for her too.

Before I got my CB this is the last "bike" I did any 2-up riding on. It was my father's. I was still in high school and although it wasn't a speed demon, she (not my wife) still had to hold on tight. Man, those were the days. It's only since it got the CB that my wife wants to ride with me now. It's still fun but different.

(This isn't a picture of my father's scooter but his is identical. He bought it in 1967 from Sears Roebuck. At 82 he doesn't ride it anymore but it still starts up on the first kick.)

What a classic scooter. he still has it? That's awesome.

Yup, the last time he rode it, a few years back, he got busted big time. He was just riding it around a subdivision near his house and got pulled over. Don't remember why exactly but he never had gotten his motorcycle license (didn't need one for it back then) and he had no insurance on it. IIRC, they got him for about $700. Ouch!

As soon as the my schedule and the weather cooperates, though, I've promised him a ride on the CB. When I was a kid, before I got too big, he used to have me stand in the area in front, between his legs (always being very careful not to step on the rear brake) and give me rides, my first exposure to 2-up riding, I guess. That's how I caught the bug. I guess now it's time for a little payback.

I'm in the She Rides Her Own Bike group, also. It sounds like fun, though, so maybe I'll try to talk her into it sometime.

$700? Holy cow. In the subdivision? That was a little excessive imo.

Anyhow my wife has been riding with me for 42 + years. I feel it has strengthened our marriage immeasurably. We have been all over the U.S., Canada and Europe. She has been an awesome riding partner. At 63 with a replacement hip and 2 replacement knees she is slowing down, but we rode out to dinner the other night and she really enjoyed the ride. As long as she wants to ride she is wanted/welcome on my pillion seat.

The combination of the two fines really added up. For whatever reason, the cops where not in the mood to give him a break that day. I think the lack of insurance was the steeper of the two, though. He had gotten many years of enjoyment up to that point so, all in all, he was pretty lucky.

I never minded riding solo for all the years I did but there is something about sharing the experience with another person, especially someone you love, that really takes it to another level. I know you can say that about any activity we all do together but there's definitely something special about riding together. We can travel to the same destination on the same day on the exact same road and the experience will always be better on a bike.

My wife has ridden her own bike since the early 80s but now that we are older and has a small bike she likes to go two up on the
CB when we got to events where there is a crowd. Funny thing is though I can not get her to ride our new 150 scooter?!
She will ride two up on it but won't try it and she has had many bikes of different sizes. We once had a 50cc scooter at home
- it was our demo from our store - I got here to ride it around the block and then she said - no way never again.
