Glad you"re OK!

I wear my Dainese Alien leather pants most of the time. They're not practical for all situations so sometimes I wear jeans.....and drive my car.

I wear denim motorcycle jeans with the Kevlar inserts, but the Kevlar does nothing to cushion impact.
It's the risk I take.

Ordered some parts today, I will just put the stock bars and maybe mirrors back on for now. I can sand and repaint the bar ends and cover. Black is an easy color to match. Definitely going to get another set of guards I feel that saved the engine for sure. Had a Cbr929 before that was dropped and cracked the engine case itself on the stator side. Never could get it to stop leaking oil after that. As for the tank I guess I'll just polish and wax it. I have full coverage and the bike is all paid for so don't really want to make a claim when the deductible is $500 and I'm pretty sure I could get it all almost 100% for around $600. Don't need to fix all the scratches, as it gives the bike some character. Will post pics for sure when it's up and going again.

The risk we take became reality... your managing the risk by using engine guards & your apparel & helmet also paid off for you... truly glad for you that "the pinky" is all that physically pains you!... talk with a good auto body repair guy... he(she) can get your tank dent repaired so you do not have to look at that dent every time you ride... which might be awhile as you go through the repair procedure(s)... again... although bike could have been worse(rlet's karma???) thank goodness you "lucked-out" physically!!

Let me join the chorus by saying, I'm glad you weren't seriously hurt! And, I agree, it looks like your engine guards did their job well. The levers are easily replaced and at least you have your stock handlebar.

I know that if I go down, the jeans I tend to wear will offer little, if any, protection. I promise to spare you all photos of the road rash my backside suffers if I'm ever so unfortunate.

The damage could have been worse I suppose. Both levers need to be replaced along with the handle bars and Honda engine guards. The mirrors are scratched along with a dent in the tank from the handle bars. The left driver peg broke off and the transmission cover got scratched above the engine guard. I faired fine, I had all my gear on; (Shoei RF 1100, Sedici Leather Jacket, Alpinestars Full leather gloves, Dainese Cotton riding pants and steel toe boots) my pinky finger hurts a little but mostly just my pride and soon to be check book.

How did you get black engine guards? They look(ed) nice!

I am glad you are still with us and willin'. May all coming journeys with this machine bring even more meaning to why you ride.

This is making me question the effectiveness of my lil' engine guards..

The bike can be fixed as everyone says. It is so good to have proper riding clothes on. People at work think I am crazy and a nerd but this is another example of why we should wear protective clothes whenever we ride. Hope you are well

It's an area where many of us cut corners.

I'm a believer in gear...and a survivor. Had a bad wreck in 1986; I had a helmet; and thick denim. It protected about as much as you'd expect - head okay, elbows ripped to the bone. Oh, and knee laid open deep, too.

Now I have an armored riding coat; and full-face helmet...and riding pants, not denim, which I've outgrown. I look like a clown in those too-small pants, getting off and going into whatever joint or gas station or motel I'm needing. So...I've been wearing just jeans.

I went to price out kevlar jeans but they don't carry them in stock in my size. And I put it off...one of those things.

I may be regretting it soon. The CB is the first bike I've had since 2010, that I'll be touring on, that does NOT have ABS. Now I have been saved by ABS; I love the idea; but I liked the CB more. And it was THERE. No need to spend weeks searching and then working out a shipment or pickup.

So I have no ABS. Leaving on a road trip tomorrow...in jeans. Maybe I'll be able to buy some Kevlar jeans in a city along the way...or maybe I'll rue this decision from a hospital bed.
