What a drag for a rider to consider having to carry (yet) more gadgets just to have a ride. I think of other things like side stand pads for soft asphalt, ear plugs, etc. etc.
Good to hear the 17's don't have the extremely annoying "slow fill" dbark brought up. I've never owned a bike that you had to "top off" 15 times just to get a full tank. Small gripe but definitely a flaw.
My 2011 doesn't have a slow fill problem and I doubt the tank is different from the 2013 / 2014 bikes.
I'm sure you're right. Same tank. I wonder why it would be different? I believe there have been others that have stated the problem. And believe me, you would know what I'm talking about if you had it. There is no denying the tank fills up, drains down to just below the filler, and then takes more up to the top, and repeats. I know for sure I have repeated this 15 times and still could take more. Even on the centerstand. I've never had the patience to see just how long it would take to have the tank completely full. Like I said, it's not a huge deal, it's just inconvenient.
Having filled the tank of my 2013 for the grand total of 3 times since I've had it, I can confidently state that I use the side stand and have not had any delay in filling up - not that I pull the pump trigger all the way to start with.
Also, most of the garages round here (apart from the forecourts on supermarkets) require you to go into the shop to pay. We do have fuel apps that allow car drivers to pay automatically whilst sat in their cars using their smartphones but us bikers are not allowed to use these as it means using highly dangerous mobile phones on the forecourt that may spark and thus cause an explosion - now, if anyone has had a static shock into their ears whilst using their smartphones, I would like to hear of it.

Maybe the U.S. tank has a different filler neck. That's the issue I've observed on mine. The filler neck extends about 1.5" below the top of the tank. As the fuel level reaches the bottom of the filler neck, it will fill up the neck first. When the fuel flow is stopped, the fuel drains out of the neck to the level inside the tank. Basically, what you're doing as you try to top off is repeatedly filling the neck, then waiting as it drains into the tank.
I hardly ever bother trying to do that. I experimented once and found the difference between filling to the bottom of the neck and completely topping off was about 2 tenths of a gallon. Not really worth the time and effort unless your next fuel stop will be close to the range of the tank.
Rocky yours will do that as well.
Funny over on the FJR forum they complain about the exact same thing. Some go as far as to punch extra holes in the filler neck tube to facilitate putting a little more gas in their tanks. Their experience mirrors Flyn's in that they are able to get a couple extra tenths in. Certainly nothing significant, and hardly worth the effort and aggravation imo.
