A nice, relaxed ride across the Tagus River

The goal was to tour the Guadiana Natural Park and enjoy the local cuisine.

We left Lisbon around 9:30 a.m., and after about 80 km of highway riding, took to the secondary roads heading south.

The bikes:

Crossing into Serpa:

We reached Serpa around 1 p.m. and had a great lunch at the “Molhó Bico” (loosely translates to “wet your beak”) restaurant. Great regional dishes centered around pork (a regional species, also available in southern Spain, called “Porco Preto”, or “Black Pork”.

Lunch:

Properly fed and watered, we headed a bit further south to an old mining town called “Mina de São Domingos” where we enjoyed the local reservoir beach. Leaving around 4 p.m., we headed west towards Mértola, crossing the Guadiana River, stopping for a couple of pictures.

After that, it was northern bound towards Lisbon and, after getting into a summer shower in Vendas Novas (it really cleared the bugs from my visor), we got home at about 8 p.m..

Really great ride all around.
