Today we took a ride to an apple orchard and winery/distillery in southeast Wisconsin. We have taken this ride a few times over the past few years and I believe I have written about it here. This was a little different because one of our riding friends, Linda, would be leading her first (I think) group ride. The group was small; just Linda, her fiancé Scott, Cheryl, and myself. She designed a very nice route for us that included breakfast at Manny's Snack Shack in Twin Lakes (highly recommend this place, by the way), and a meandering route on the roads of Walworth, Jefferson, and Kenosha counties. Total distance was about 175 miles and we were back home mid-afternoon. The weather was absolutely perfect; sunny and about 75 degrees. That is not typical of this area at this time of year. Oh, and by the way, the Moto-Skiveez "adventure underwear" worked great. I will reserve a full report on that for after I do our fall color ride in mid-October.

Great ride with great people to a great destination on a great day....and I forgot my camera. So, here is the only picture I have from the ride and, in the end, maybe it's really the only picture needed.

MTC. I usually check in on the forum just before my usual healthy breakfast of porridge and tea, or in summer perhaps fruit with some light yoghurt. Darling is now in the kitchen cooking up a storm - fried eggs, bacon, beans, chorizo, tomato, hash browns and field mushrooms on thick slabs of well buttered sourdough toast dressed with a savoury onion and tomato relish.

I HAVE REPORTED YOUR POST. I have requested that Guth install software that deletes all food photographs before midday AEST.

I would have to stay the night if I rode to a distillery.

After a cup of tea and three weetbix, a 360 km ride to Marlo and back the ongoing feast of pictorial delights does provide me with a gastronomical challenge that must be deferred.

(Marlo is a small town at the mouth of the Snowy River where it flows into Bass Strait.)

What in the name of goodness is "Adventure underwear"? I can only surmise that, when the adventure intensifies, it conceals the brown stains or perhaps entraps the odour. I would imagine very useful for those of us who occasionally enter turns too hot.

Sounds like a great ride Sea. So, how did Linda do as ride director? Can be a harrowing job. Did she say she would do it again, or would she rather ride in the back?

Linda did an awesome job. She designed a nice, indirect, route to the restaurant and then to the orchard with a more direct route home. I generally design rides this way myself. She plugged her route into her phone and followed the audio turn-by-turn directions given; something that I have not done. That method failed her when the nav system wanted her to turn left where there was no place to turn and started to send her in a big circle back to the same spot. When she she realized this, she pulled over and, rather than recalculating her route, she asked me to lead to the orchard, because she knew that I was more familiar with the area? We were only a few miles away from our destination. I also lead home, but that was because she knew there were a couple of roads she wanted to use for that leg, but couldn't recall their names or exactl locations. I would have done the same thing and have done so on numerous occasions.

On the road, she was stable, confident, and consistent. She signaled her lane changes and turns. She made sure we together at traffic signals. I'm not sure you can ask a ride leader to do much more than that.

I think she will lead other rides in the future and I'm looking forward to them if/when she does.

They also have "sport" and "cruiser" underwear--make your own assumptions on their purposes. lol
