Today we made it into the mid 60s but very windy. Decided to ride the hills for a piece, drop down to the river and head east and stop at the benches along the river in the village of Ripley Ohio.
As I was dropping down of what we call "the first ridge" I came upon these 3 bikers wearing patches all with life saving pipes and doo rags.

My first thought was if I wanted to pass them or not. I decided not. When we got down to the river I was hoping they would turn west, but nope they turned east, the same direction I was going. All of a sudden I could hear those life saving pipes roar and they took off at a pretty decent clip. Fast enough that I was able to ride my own pace without crowding them.
the mighty Ohio was high, muddy and choppy today

I look at this house quite often as I ride out the river road. Just a shack in disrepair now, but at one time I'll bet this was some fancy house. Somebody's pride and joy. The fancy woodwork, double porches. I'll bet the neighbors were envious of the people that had all the money to spend on building it. Probably cost a couple thousand dollars back in the day. My wife often comments how she would love to go inside. You know you are going to see decrepit, but you can imagine what it was.

Anyhow I get to Ripley and park by the benches where I always do. There are two women there with dogs but I don't pay much attention. As I'm taking off my helmet and gloves, one lady comes walking over with her dog who sniffs the bike. The dog only has 3 legs. She says she wasn't sure what her dog would do about a motorcycle because she doesn't like bicycles, but that she seems ok with the bike. I said it's a friendly bike, nice and quiet. I grab my thermos of tea and have a seat on the bench. She goes over and sits on another bench.

the dog lays down by her master, but after eyeing me for a little while she gets up and comes hopping on her 1 good leg over to me. I just sit there and calmly tell the dog it's ok, and she comes right up to me. I extend my hand and let the dog sniff and she comes in and lets me rub her head and scratch behind her ears. The lady says "she has never done that ever." I usually get along with kids and dogs I told her. She knows I'm no threat and I let her approach me. Her choice. The lady was amazed. Anyhow drank my tea, bid the ladies a good day. They told me to be safe and I headed for home. After all we are feeding 14 people dinner (as we do every Sunday) in about 3 hours and I need to get home to cook.
heading back down US 52 I think about something Chapomis said about the lack of traffic in other peoples pics. He's right, mostly my rides are pretty traffic free..like this
[url=http://smg.photobucket.com/user/theferret111/media/ST%20ride%20Feb%2028%202016%20009_zpsdj8wv5iu.jpg.html]![[Image: aeea9a50e95201883722f6517e747e75.jpg]](https://cb1100forum.net/forum/uploads/imp/201602/aeea9a50e95201883722f6517e747e75.jpg)
So I was determined to take a pic of traffic for Chapois. One car would come by. A little while later another car would come by. By the time I got to the village of Chilo I had about given up when I looked up and saw a line of traffic coming.. so I whipped the camera up and snapped a pic...LOOK CHAPOMIS .....TRAFFIC ! Well, what we call traffic anyway.

So I'm back home, family has started arriving in little groups so I am done for the day. 88 miles today. Not bad for February in the Ohio Valley.
