Very similar to my first day in Morganstown Ferret. I think it's easier now with cell phones with internet and maps and things. Trying to stumble across a vacant hotel in the 70's is a whole other thing.
Looks like a good ride.

If you ever hit the south again let me know, I'm just off the Blue Ridge Parkway.
I'm trying to convince my wife to spend a week down there this winter, either over Christmas or March break. Tow the CB down on, bring the kids, I can spend the mornings riding while they swim in the hotel pool then meet for a late lunch and hit the town! I bet deals gap isn't that busy on a Tuesday morning in December!
And thanks four paws I'm going to check out the websites and hopefully someday take you up on that ride offer. I will definitely be back down there next summer at some point. Probably do the same route too, West Virginia was pretty awesome.
COOL! Back of the Dragon and Claw of the Dragon, I'm going to have to slay all the Dragon bits with my CB. I think there is a head of the dragon route somewhere too...
That looks like an awesome trip, you did some hard riding too.
My wife and I camped in Great Smokey Mountain park (as the KOA in Gatlinburg was full, and yes it was mid-July and very hot) prior to riding the BRP, I had no idea "the Dragon" existed. Looks like I missed some fun.
Keep in mind that SOMETIMES December can have miserable weather in the mountains . I keep my bikes going all winter but there are sometimes a few weeks where I do not ride.
Houtman how are things in March?
March can still be dicey in the mountains , April might be a better time but of course you never know.
I am surprised that weather fore casters get paid at all , they are often so wrong !
