I take it you hate your job, otherwise a wiser move would be to take a 6 week leave of absence so you have something to come back to.
Otherwise, bold move. One I would have never done, but you don't have to live life safely like I did lol. I have an acquaintance in Mexico right now. Quit his job, cashed out his retirement (not a sound move at his age) and is riding thru South America on a Suzuki DR. Sends back fabulous pictures. At your age it's not as big of a risk. Plenty of years left to save for retirement. It comes around quicker than you think it will.
I wish you all the luck in the world dbarkdoll. Have fun, ride safe.. and watch out for wildlife..and charlatans.

All I can say: if you can, do it. Time passes by...
Wish you all the best on that trip!

Brilliant, dbarkdoll. What a great thing to have the opportunity do such a ride. Very best wishes.
I hate to be the wet blanket, but there’s a chance you won’t want to stop.

Yes, I echo what the others have said.
And stuck here in wet, rainy England (at the moment) I'm REALLY envious of you and particularly of Django!

I do in fact hate my job, and was planning on leaving it anyway. And there’s no way they’d give me that much time off. The only way this ride is going to happen is in between jobs. If my future employer looks down on the fact that I took some time off for myself between jobs, i don’t want to work there anyway.

Haha, there’s definitely a chance for that. I’ll be missing my girl and dog out on the road though and probably be very eager to get back to them after all that time away.

Failure on my part... I hated my job and left it too. But I went and visited my aunt, I didn't go on an epic ride.
But, my aunt lives in northern New Mexico, and yes, there are cool roads up there. If you need dental work on the road, hit up my cousin Keith in Questa, just north of Taos.
