Did you study oxidation numbers before you sent that post....I taught Chemistry for 29 years, and I rarely even used Gold in a formula!

Chemistry was not one of my better subjects at school, but for some reason I've always remembered that the chemical symbol for gold was Au and that chemical compounds often had different valences. When someone signed on to the forum calling himself—and I use 'him' advisedly—I took to Google to learn the formula.
