Full Version: Balance shaft - is it time to adjust? And valve check question

My 2014 CB1100 Standard/Black is fast approaching 8000 miles (not km.) I have copied Popgun's 'from the book' page on 'how to do.'

Question - can someone post a pic showing me specifically where the adjuster is located?

One more question. re valve clearances. I'm considering riding the remainder of this season (another 4-6k) without checking the valve clearances. Based on the spreadsheet data showing when several owners checked their clearances, it appeared that the valve clearances on the CB engine tend to stay in spec for way more than 8000 miles. Realize this is quite subjective issue.

Thanks,

Ohiorider (Bob)

If you scroll to the top of the page , just under the little red cb1100 picture you see the "search" function, just write " the observed " in the search box, you will see the OBSERVED valve clearance thread on the top of the list, this is what members have found over the years to be a practical mileage for valve clearance checks.
I think you don't have to be in a hurry to do the adjustment yet but it is a good valid question, go have a look.

By the way the balancer shaft is an excentric stationary shaft ( with the slot and the clamp on the outside of the engine ), the balancer rotates around it, has a weight on one end, counter-rotates with the crank shaft to reduce vibration and is connected to the crankshaft through a gear, you adjust the play between the gear teeth.
funny that video I posted is by Max Smart..and he talks about Rlets. That you Max? Must be someone here.
max is the guy sitting behind this keyboard typing this reply, by the way i cheated on the rlets, i had some plastic ends that came off electrical cables to protect the ends, i had them for years before i found out they fitted on the end of the levers, so technically they are" plets " but the effect is the same, so.....
Thanks for posting the video clip FerretTongue
Max Smart? Did he use the Cone of Silence?
